Pilgrims gather at Vaishno Devi and temples across India as Navratri begins

Open Magazine reported that devotees are visiting temples across India, including Vaishno Devi and Kamakhya, as Navratri begins.

The New Indian Express reported that Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada prepared for the Devi Navaratri festival.

Curly Tales reported eight temples in Mumbai where devotees visit Goddess Durga during the festive season.

The Vaishno Devi Temple, also known as the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple and Vaishno Devi Bhavan, sits on Trikuta mountain at an elevation of 5,200 feet (1,500 meters) in Katra, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The temple is 43 km from the main city of Jammu and 29 km from the district headquarters Reasi town, dedicated to Vaishno Devi as a manifestation of goddesses Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasarasvati.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), chaired by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir since August 1986, governs the temple and reported 9.52 million pilgrims in 2023.

WION reported that Navratri 2026 includes nine days, nine forms of Goddess Durga, and nine colors.

The Times of India reported nine mantras of Maa Durga to chant during the nine days for peace, prosperity, and health.

For Hindu pilgrims, the nine days mark temple visits, chants, and observances dedicated to Goddess Durga.
